Trustees of New Horizons Academy Trust

Simon Wood, Chair of Trustees

Simon Wood is currently Executive Headteacher at St Martin Frobisher Academy in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, which is part of REAch2 - the UK’s largest primary-only academy trust.  Previously he was the Regional Director of Education (East Anglia) in REAch2 and relocated, from West Sussex, to Suffolk in 2015, as REAch2 initially sponsored seven of the county’s most challenging schools in areas of significant rural and coastal deprivation; ultimately leading the work through to 2018 in 13 schools, including conversions, free schools and new provision.

Sir Martin Frobisher Academy promotes a ‘Growth Mindset’ approach to provide all of our children with equal opportunity to empower and independently challenge themselves.

Simon’s track-record in ‘transforming schools’ has led him to his current role, and, once again, was proven in his previous role as Executive Headteacher at Copperfield Academy.

As well as leading St Martin Frobisher Academy, Simon also supports REAch2 with quality assurance and school reviews, and works centrally one day weekly in supporting the Trust with achieving its key priorities.

He was educated at Calday (Cheshire), before graduating, with Honours, from the University of Brighton, majoring in Education; with Language, Literacy and Literature, Performing Arts and SEN as subsidiaries. He has over 25 years’ experience in the education sector, both primary and secondary; was a national specialist leader in behaviour and attendance, and has a successful track-record in transforming schools – ensuring pupils’ potential is fulfilled.
